Indira Gandhi's Death Sparks Mayhem

Description: On October 31, 1984, two of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's bodyguards fatally shot her. The assassination sparked off a series of violent clashes in the capital city of New Delhi in which the Hindus systematically targeted the Sikhs. Soon, the mayhem spread to other parts of India as well.
